Newly crowned Miss Universe, Pia Wurtzbach, shared a touching message on Facebook that she penned for Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez. The shock of the competition’s crown mixup is still fresh, and Pia’s note was a promise of solidarity and compassion to her friend in its wake.
Miss Universe (and Miss Philippines), Pia Wurtzbach, wrote a lengthy note on Facebook on Thursday, December 24, thanking her friends, family and fans for their support after her big win. But the most moving part of her message was dedicated to Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez, who had her crown taken away. Pia and Ariadna aren’t feuding over it; they’re now “bonded together forever forever.”
“To everyone who voted for me, especially to my fellow countrymen, thank you. Maraming salamat po sa inning lahat,” Miss Universe Pia wrote. “To Ariadna, you are an amazing woman and we are now bonded together forever by a unique experience. In the last 3 weeks we were together, I saw how strong and beautiful you are inside and out. You represented your country with honor and I know how proud everyone must be of you. Fate has a plan for you, and I’m excited to see what’s ahead.”
Pia’s message to Ariadna is so beautiful! They went through such a shocking and stressful ordeal together, in front of the entire world, no less. They’re truly bonded together by their experience. Miss Colombia was announced as the winner of Miss Universe on Sunday, December 20 by host Steve Harvey, but it was all a horrible mistake.
She was basking in applause, freshly crowned and beaming onstage, when Steve rushed out and said that he had announced the wrong winner. Miss Colombia was the runner-up, and Miss Philippines was Miss Universe. A glorious moment for Pia, but a crushing, heartbreaking moment for Ariadna. Poor thing!
Pia asked her fans to stop the hate after the switch-up, and promise to stay kind online. “And to all the fans who are still fighting about this…Please let’s all stop now,” Pia wrote. “The Miss Universe Organization is about uniting empowered women from all over the world. Arguing and sending hateful messages to each other defeats the whole purpose. You believe in the message of Miss Universe and so do I. Again, thank you for the love.”
