Eek. Apologies keep rolling in after the super awkward mistake made during the 2015 Miss Universe Pageant, and now the organization itself is offering the top two finalists their sincerest regrets. Click inside for the FULL statement.
On Sunday night, Dec. 20, two women’s lives were drastically changed forever during the 2015 Miss Universe Pageant. Due to a careless mistake by host Steve Harvey, the organization was forced to release a statement apologizing to both Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines for an embarrassing error that will be remember for years to come.
The head honchos behind the Miss Universe Pageant are finally speaking out about the error their host, Steve Harvey, made during 2015’s live broadcast. In a short statement from the organization, they not only apologized for his alleged “human error,” but also wished nothing but the best for both Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines. So awkward.
“The excitement of live TV was evident tonight on the Miss Universe stage with over 10 million live fan votes tabulated,” the statement reads. “Unfortunately, a live telecast means that human error can come into play. We witnessed that tonight when the wrong winner was initially announced. Our sincerest apologies to Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez, Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, their families and fans. We congratulate Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach as Miss Universe 2015.”
The official apology from the organization came shortly after similar repeated statements released by Steve. The flabbergasted host first tried to apologize as the live broadcast came to an ended when he took “full responsibility” for the error, but then got panned online by viewers after he misspelled both countries in an apologetic tweet to Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines. Yikes.
