It was the most awkward moment in TV history. Steve Harvey announced the wrong Miss Universe winner, and Miss Colombia ended up having the crown taken from her and given to Miss Philippines on live television. Watch the shocking moment from start to finish now!
No one watching Miss Universe 2015 could have seen this epic fail coming. Host Steve Harvey mistakenly named Miss Colombia as the winner, when it was really Miss Philippines. The moment is so terrible and uncomfortable, especially when Miss Colombia had to give the crown back after Steve’s mistake! See the full video of Steve’s massive blunder now!
At the end of the show, as Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez, 21, and Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, 26, wait to hear their names, Steve clearly announces Miss Colombia as the winner. Miss Colombia starts crying after she believes she’s the rightful winner. She’s crowned and even does a victory lap, waving to her fans and the millions watching.
Nearly two full minutes after Miss Colombia was crowned, the camera shows Steve walking towards her. He paces around before revealing his awful mistake.
“Okay, folks. I have to apologize. The first runner-up is Colombia,” he says as a horrified Miss Colombia stands next to him. The camera pans to Miss Philippines, who realizes she’s actually the winner. She looks both happy and shocked.
“Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines,” Steve declares. The crowd starts freaking out. Steve attempts to explain the situation, saying he will take responsibility for the announcement mistake. But the damage had been done. The situation only gets worse. Miss Colombia has the crown stripped from her head, only to have it placed on Miss Philippines.
Steve initially apologized on Twitter and said he felt “terrible” for the mistake. He later deleted the tweet after getting backlash for misspelling both Colombia and Philippines. He followed up with a series of apology tweets. But is it too late to say sorry?
