Donald Trump might be onto something here. The controversial presidential candidate came up with a solution for the awkward wrong crowning at Miss Universe, suggesting Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines should both be named the winners. See what he said here.
Should Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach, share her Miss Universe title with Miss Colombia, Ariadna Gutierrez, who was initially (and wrongly) named the winner thanks to a massive mistake by Steve Harvey? That’s Donald Trump’s quick-fix solution!
“I’ll tell you what I think I’d do. I think I’d make ’em a co-winner,” Donald said on the Today show Dec. 21. “I would recommend that they go have a beautiful ceremony, which is good for the brand and good for Miss Universe, and do a co-winner.”
Donald used to partially own Miss Universe, but after he made controversial comments about Mexican immigrants over the summer, his co-owner, NBCUniversal, cut ties with him and he bought the network’s share, eventually selling it to WWE/IMG in September. “It was a terrible error,” he added, of Steve’s mistake. “Things happen. It’s live television.” Check out Donald’s book RIGHT HERE.
Ariadna was thrilled when Steve announced her as the winner of the Miss Universe pageant on Dec. 20, and excitedly accepted the crown and sash from last year’s winner, Paulina Vega. And while Pia graciously stepped aside to let Ariadna have her moment, it didn’t last long — because Steve revealed he’d made a major error, and it was actually Miss Philippines who was the champion.
“I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake,” he wrote on Twitter afterward, although he also placed blame on the teleprompter for allegedly having the wrong name. “I feel terrible.” Lucky for him, Ariadna was classy and gracious about the whole thing. “Everything happens for a reason,” she said afterward, through tears. “So I’m happy. Thank you for voting for me.”
HollywoodLifers, do you agree with Donald that the ladies should both be crowned winners?
