How sad. Jimmy Carter’s grandson, Jeremy, died just days before Christmas while taking a nap after claiming he didn’t feel well.
Jeremy Carter, 28, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, Dec. 20. His grandfather, former president Jimmy Carter, 91, revealed the sad news while teaching a Sunday school class in Plains, Georgia just hours later.
The death of Jimmy Carter’s grandson happened very suddenly, and unfortunately very close to Christmas. On Saturday afternoon, Dec. 19, the otherwise healthy 28-year-old told his mom he wasn’t feeling well and then went to lay down for a little while. When his mother returned to check on him, she realized his heart had stopped, reports CNN.
The family desperately tried to revive Jeremy with CPR before he was rushed to the hospital, Maranatha Baptist Church Rev. Jeremy Shoulta told the outlet. Unfortunately, doctors were unable to keep him alive and Jeremy slipped away in the early morning hours of Sunday, Dec. 20.
President Carter was brave enough to teach his Sunday school class as always, even after his grandson’s passing. However, he was visibly “shaken” and “obviously sad,” claims the reverend.
This tragic news comes just weeks after the former president revealed he was cancer free on Dec. 7. Jimmy had a brush with death himself when he found out his cancer had spread to his brain in Aug. 2015, which is when he started rigorous radiation treatment.
Our thoughts remain with Jeremy’s friends and family during this difficult time.
