Jimmy Fallon used the Force — and The Roots — to add some hip-hop flavor to the ‘Star Wars’ universe. During the Dec. 17 episode of ‘The Tonight Show,’ Jimmy and the band dissed Jar Jar Binks and gave love to the Wookies with #StarWarsRaps. Click to watch!
Even in a galaxy far, far away, you can drop sick beats and spit sharp rhymes, as Jimmy Fallon, 41, proved on The Tonight Show. With assistance from Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter, 44, and The Roots, Jimmy put Obi-Wan Kenobi to shame when he pulled off some amazing Star Wars Raps.
Tariq didn’t need Yoda to sing along to the fan-submitted Star Wars themed verses on the Dec. 17 episode. Instead, he channeled The Notorious B.I.G. to turn “Big Poppa” into “Chewbacca.” Fans were throwing their hands in the air, even if they weren’t covered in hair.
Is it possible that Drake may be a Jedi Knight? Tariq turned Drizzy’s “Hotline Bling,” one of the biggest (and most mocked) hits of the year, into a lightsaber-sharp diss of the prequels and the most hated character, Jar Jar Binks!
There was even a little Beastie Boys flavor, but The Roots turned to the Dark Side when they pulled out Limp Bizkit. Nu Metal is totally not Skywalker approved. Thankfully, they gave Snoop Dogg a shout-out with the next song. Is it safe to say the color of Snoop’s lightsaber is green? As a bonus, before a single Star Wars rap beat was dropped, Jimmy retold a horrible (and hilarious) story about his grandmother and a reindeer.
Of course, for those Jedi who don’t like hip-hop, Jimmy provided a different musical tribute to Star Wars on the Dec. 15 episode of The Tonight Show. Jimmy, The Roots and the cast of the new Star Wars movie all joined together for an a capella rendition of John Williams‘s famous score. Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Adam Driver showed they could carry tune. Even Han and Leia got in on the fun, as Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford sang along!
Jimmy wasn’t the only late night host getting in on the Star Wars action. Conan O’Brien had the cast and director of the critically acclaimed film appear on Conan. And when they came, they brought behind-the-scenes secrets with them! Remember: no spoilers!
What did you think of Jimmy’s #StarWarRaps, HollywoodLifers? Does it make you even more excited for The Force Awakens?
