Just one day after the final GOP debate, Republican frontrunner Donald Trump finally made his appearance on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live,’ but it was a much different person that we’ve seen during campaign season. But he still managed to get a dig in at CNN.
After canceling his scheduled appearance in Oct., Donald Trump, 69, finally showed up to Jimmy Kimmel Live Dec. 16. He talked about the last GOP debate the night prior but turned into Mr. Nice Guy when it came to talking about the other candidates, addressing controversial issues, and even kissing Jimmy Kimmel‘s butt about what a great job he does with his show. Where’s the fiery, ornery Donald we’ve come to know on the campaign trail? Because he was a smiley sweetheart with Jimmy! We’re totally confused. But he still managed to take swipe at recent debate host CNN.
Donald finally stopped by for a chat with Jimmy, but the incindiary politico we’ve come to know was replaced by a rational, toned-down nice guy. “Thank you for honoring your commitment to be here,” Jimmy noted after Donald canceled on him last-minute in Oct. while Donald paid the host back by telling the audience what a great guy Jimmy is.
As for the big Republican debate, The Donald says he loving every minute of it, noting “I had a great time, I thought it was amazing, it’s become like the Superbowl,” before noting that the ratings for the debates have hit historic highs, mainly in part to his colorful personality and off the cuff remarks. He said that CNN had an all-time viewing high of 23 million viewers for their initial airing of a Republican debate and noted after this latest debate drew 18 million viewers, “CNN should may me a lot!” thanks to the audience he drew for them. Jimmy tried hard to grill Donald on some of his most criticized plans, but the candidate didn’t want to play. Even when it came to his controversial deportation plan, Donald toned things down saying he just wants people to come here legally, but instead of using the “build a wall” at the border statement like he has on the campaign trail, he said he’d like to see a “big beautiful door” of entry. He even cooled the rhetoric about banning Muslim entry into the U.S., stressing his idea for it would only be “temporary” so we can figure out the terrorism situation. Where’s the pumped up, angry Donald we’ve seen at all of his campaign stops?! He really laid on the charm instead.
What did you think of Donald’s Jimmy Kimmel Live appearance, HollywoodLifers? Were you hoping for more fireworks?
