It’s finally happening! Sheldon and Amy are finally doing it on the Dec. 17 episode of ‘The Big Bang Theory.’ Star Mayim Bialik reveals that the timing ‘feels really right’ for the couple, but she really didn’t think the couple would be seen in bed together — ever.
Brace yourselves. Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) are having sex for the first time on the Dec. 17 episode of The Big Bang Theory. Mayim teases that the special moment surprised her, but notes that it “doesn’t feel like it’s wrong” since Sheldon and Amy have been together so long!
Fans have been waiting a long time for this, and the time is now. Jim and Mayim, who play Sheldon and Amy, admit that they really didn’t see Sheldon and Amy’s sex scene coming. “I also didn’t know we’d actually have a bed scene. I’ll just be honest about that,” Mayim told Entertainment Weekly.
Sheldon and Amy have been together for years, so this next step is not completely out of character. “We play a lot of that sweet, intimate anxiety but because they’ve been together so long it doesn’t feel like it’s wrong,” Mayim told the outlet. “It feels really right.”
“Seems like five and a half years is long enough for Amy to wait to finally be with Sheldon like this, ” writer and executive producer Steve Molaro revealed to E! News. “It just felt somewhat natural,” Jim added. “It felt like the right time for them, it did.”
When asked how she thought fans would react to Sheldon and Amy having sex, Mayim replied back to EW, “Some may need to be hospitalized with excitement, we’re told.” She also noted that it’s truly special that Sheldon and Amy’s relationship is the “longest-running nonsexual romantic relationship you’ve seen on TV.”
The Big Bang Theory airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
