David Schwimmer better not count any of the Kardashians as his friends, not after throwing shade at the family. After playing Robert Kardashian on ‘American Crime Story,’ David said Robert was ‘very different’ than what the ‘Kardashian name means to people today.’
David Schwimmer, 49, may almost be an honorary Kardashian, after portraying Robert Kardashian on American Crime Story. But he better not expect an invite to the family reunion, especially after he possibly dissed Kim Kardashian, 34, and her sisters by saying they’ve completely changed what it means to be a “Kardashian!”
“I had no idea who [Robert] was,” David admitted when he appeared on The Bill Carter Interview on Dec. 16, reports the Daily Mail. In order to portray Robert in the upcoming program, David did his homework on the late husband of Kris Jenner. Robert was, as David said, “a mystery to me. And I was really intrigued, especially given what the Kardashian name means to people today.”
Today, the “Kardashian” name means, among other things, a hit reality television series, a book of selfies and a sold-out lip kit, which, as David found out, is nothing like what Robert Sr. was about. “When people watch the episodes,” David said, “I think they’ll come to learn their father Robert was a very different person.” The former Friends star said that Kim’s dad was also “a man of great faith, which I didn’t know at all.”
David may want to reconsider his opinion about Robert’s kids, as Kim is very spiritual. The faithful Kim took husband Kanye West to Jerusalem’s Old City to baptize their first-born, North West. They’ll also go back there when it’s time to christen Saint West. So, maybe the apple didn’t fall that far from the tree, like David thinks.
The first season of American Crime Story will cover the famous O.J. Simpson murder case, and David will play O.J.’s friend-turned-defense attorney. Though David was glued to the television when the high profile trial took place in 1994-95, he never thought about the man behind the legal team.
“We didn’t really know much when I was watching the trial. I didn’t know much about him except, as Sarah [Paulson] was saying, what the media kind of fed you.” David will get a chance to show more about Robert in American Crime Story, as he joins Sarah (as Marcia Clarke) and Cuba Gooding Jr. (as O.J.) for the premier season. The show debuts Feb. 2, 2016 on FX.
Do you agree with David, HollywoodLifers? Are Robert’s children completely different than their daddy? Or are they more like him than David thinks?
