Is Blake Shelton’s country music taste rubbing off on his rocker love Gwen Stefani? She made a very curious choice for her contestant Jeffrey Austin in his finale performance on ‘The Voice’ Dec. 14, and we’ve got to wonder if the Blakester didn’t have a helping hand in the selection.
Has Gwen Stefani officially become a country fan thanks to her boyfriend Blake Shelton? That would be a definite YES if her song selections for The Voice contestant Jeffrey Austin Dec. 14 were any indication. Not only did she choose a country tune for his spotlight song, she later joined him for a duet that had a very country feel to it. We have a feeling her man’s taste in music is really rubbing off on the queen of cool!
Gwen must really have been inspired by Blake’s musical genre cause the pop goddess chose the song “Stay” by the country duo Sugarland for Jeffrey’s main performance piece. When he started out singing against a red curtained backdrop and limited instrumentals, the song was pure country, but as soon as the curtain came down it revealed a full orchestra then backing him up, and the rendition shifted to a classic pop heartbreak ballad.
In addition to “Stay,” Jeffrey’s other final songs included the holiday classic “O Holy Night,” and a duet with his mentor Gwen, as they did a proud version of the 1981 Stevie Nicks/Don Henley classic “Leather And Lace.” Their version had a super country feel to it, as their vocals were only accompanied by simple accoustic guitar work.
Maybe the fact that Gwen and Blake fell for each other while working on a country song together helped Gwen get in the country spirit for her song selections for the evening. As HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY told you, “Things started heating up between Blake and Gwen when they started working on their song together. It was actually Blake’s idea to write a song with her, and when he suggested it, Gwen was over the moon. She thought it was a great idea and they spent a lot of quality time together.” Shortly thereafter, the two went form friends to lovers! Awwww.
