Have you ever gotten a gift that you just don’t love? Well, John Oliver revealed his clever regifting skills in a hilarious special ‘Last Week Tonight’ video that will hold you over until the show’s hiatus is over. Click to WATCH!
John Oliver, 38, has all the answers to your holiday woes. For those of you getting gifts you’re not exactly a fan of, John has a list of regifting rules that you need to know. In this surprise Last Week Tonight video, John spills how to get away with regifting without anyone ever knowing it.
It happens every year. You always receive at least one “profoundly underwhelming gift” that you just don’t want to keep. Whether it’s a scented candle or a stuffed animal, those kinds of gifts are easy to part with. And John has the perfect set of rules so you won’t be caught red-handed.
1. Never regift to someone who knows the original gifter.
2. Write a note to throw the recipient off that the gift was not originally meant for them.
3. Disguise the gift to maximize your plausible deniability.
4. Always, always, always rewrap.
5. Single regift per person.
John also notes that if you’re feeling a little lazy, you can always wrap the regift in a gift bag. John calls gift bags the “sweatpants of gift wrapping.” It’s better than nothing at all!
For John, the ideal place for regifting is an office Secret Santa party, so take note, regifters. No one will ever know the gift wasn’t intended for them. You’ll be saved from an extremely awkward situation.
Last Week Tonight doesn’t return to HBO until Feb. 2016, so this is John’s gift to us. Let’s just hope this video wasn’t a regift!
