The biggest cut yet was made on the Dec. 8 episode of ‘The Voice’ — nine semifinalists were narrowed down to four in an intense elimination. Read our recap to find out which five went home, and who earned that final spot thanks to an incredible Instant Save performance!
Wow, that was insane! Only four artists of nine were able to move on to the finals of The Voice, meaning five were eliminated on the Dec. 8 live results show. Find out the fate of Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Gwen Stefani and Pharrell’s team members in our full recap right here!
Kicking off the show was Season 3 winner from Team Blake, Cassadee Pope, who returned to sing her new single “I Am Invincible,” and really proved to these singers that there’s a future after this show. But it was quickly time to get to some results, and the first to be called safe was no surprise: Jordan Smith from Team Adam! He’s been a frontrunner since the beginning, and crushed it with his performance of “Somebody To Love” on the Dec. 7 episode, knocking Adele off the No. 1 spot on the iTunes charts.
After a commercial break, Carson Daly revealed that Blake’s artist Emily Ann Roberts — YAY, my fave! — would also be going through to the finale! It was perfect timing for her to get announced, because she sang a Dolly Parton song in last night’s episode…and Dolly was in the house for the results! The country legend sang her classic hit “Coat Of Many Colors,” and it was truly amazing to watch.
No time to waste — time for one more artist to be called safe. And it’s…Barrett Baber, another from Team Blake! WOW. Now, the three artists with the next highest amount of votes were revealed, as they would be the ones to have one more shot to perform for America’s instant Twitter Save. Jeffery Austin (Team Gwen), Madi Davis (Team Pharrell) and Zach Seabaugh (Team Blake) all fell into this category of having another chance, meaning Adam’s remaining two artists, Amy Vachal and Shelby Brown, along with Gwen’s Braiden Sunshine were eliminated.
Zach was up first for his last chance performance, and decided to sing Tim McGraw’s “Live Like You Were Dying,” and simply put, it was beautiful. But, obviously, he’s up against some tough competition and Madi sounded great when she sang “Don’t Dream It’s Over,” too. Jeffery completely blew me away though, and picked the perfect song choice with “Make It Rain,” and to be honest, it wasn’t even a question in my mind. Twitter users agreed with me, too, because Jeffery Austin was the final singer to be announced safe! But was his choice a diss from Adam to Blake and Pharrell?
It’s going to be a huge episode on Dec. 14, as Jordan, Barrett, Emily Ann and Jeffery get one more chance to sing for America’s votes in hopes of being named Season 9’s winner of The Voice. Blake, Adam and Gwen will all have a chance to take the title home to their team, but unfortunately, Pharrell will simply have to sit back, watch and enjoy the show — just like us!
