Over 20,000 French voices united in love and support for Eagles of Death Metal, who made their triumphant return to Paris following the tragic Bataclan massacre. Alongside Bono, 55, and the rest of U2, the rockers stood defiant against the terrorists who would have them live their lives in fear.

It was near the end of U2’s Dec. 7 concert at the AccorHotels Arena, reports the Daily Beast, when Bono addressed the thousands gathered. “There’s nothing left but to introduce you to some people whose lives will forever be a part of the life of Paris,” he said. “These are our brothers, our fellow troubadours, and they were robbed of their stage, so we’d like to offer them ours tonight.”

Out came Jesse Hughes, Dave Catching, Matt McJunkins and Eden Galino to join their Irish brothers in rock, their first performance in Paris since terrorist attacks. Together, the two groups belted out a version of Patti Smith’s “People Have The Power,” before launching into an incredible rendition of EODM’s “I Love You All The Time,” reports The Irish Times.

From there, instead of focusing on fear and hate, U2 and EODM filled the arena with love. Many wondered if EODM would be U2’s special guests, since they were spotted arriving at the Charles De Gaulle airport on Nov. 6. They didn’t join U2 on their first of two rescheduled shows. Instead, it was Patti Smith herself that teamed with Bono and the band, singing her anthem to a packed house.

EODM closing with “I Love You All The Time” is a significant gesture, as it’s the song the band has invited all musicians to cover and sell as part of a campaign to raise money for the victims and survivors of the deadly Nov. 13 attacks. After the performance, the band showed gratitude to not just U2, but the entire City of Light.

“We are incredibly grateful to U2 for providing us the opportunity to return to Paris so quickly,” Jesse wrote on the band’s Facebook page, “and to share the healing power of rock ‘n’ roll with so many of the beautiful people — nos amis (our friends) — of this great city. We look forward to fighting the good fight on many more fronts very soon, especially when we pick up our tour in 2016”
