WOW — what an incredible night of performances on ‘The Voice.’ With nine contestants fighting for only four spots in the Finals, things got majorly intense during the Dec. 7 Semifinals, and we’re breaking it all down for you in our recap right here!
How is America POSSIBLY going to only vote four of these nine amazing singers through on The Voice after tonight’s amazing episode?! Each contestant from Gwen Stefani, Adam Levine, Blake Shelton and Pharrell’s teams gave rave-worthy performances, fighting harder than ever to keep their spot in the competition. Read our recap of the episode now!
Barrett Baber from Blake’s team was up first, and he and his coach worked together to do something different than he’s done before: Singing a pop song. He chose “Ghost” by Ella Henderson and it was super cool! Barrett always keeps a cool head and delivers a solid performance, but will it be enough to push him through when the stakes are so high? “The longer you’re on the show the more happy I am for you,” Gwen said. “It’s just such a huge dream for you to be here and have this moment and I can just see you enjoying it so much.”
Adam’s sole country artist Shelby Brown sang one of her favorite songs ever, “Even God Must Get The Blues,” next, and was admittedly worried because she knows a lot of people haven’t heard it. “Make people know it!” her coach urged during rehearsals. The Maroon 5 singer gave his artist such great advice, and she was cool, calm and collected when she took the stage to give her gorgeous rendition of the tune.
Next up, Jeffery Austin from Gwen’s team, who sang “Believe” by Cher for his Semifinal performance. The whole thing was totally breathtaking, and it was obvious that Jeffery worked SO hard to really get this one perfect. “I will not be surprised if that’s the No. 1 most downloaded song on iTunes this week,” Blake raved. Taking the pressure of the contestants for a moment, Ellie Goulding took the stage next to sing her new single “On My Mind,” and I am totally obsessed!
After being instantly saved by America to be kept in the competition last week, Gwen’s singer Braiden Sunshine really needed a comeback performance, and put SO much effort into his rendition of “Amazing Grace.” WOW, what a perfect choice after a bit of an off-week — he sounded totally incredible. His coach was practically in tears after hearing Braiden sing, and she gushed, “The way you did it, how beautifully you did it, the tone in your voice, how you held back in the beginning then went all the way there, it was so spiritual and so beautiful. Seriously, vote for this guy!”
Zach Seabaugh from Team Blake took the stage next, and even though the audience always goes wild when he does upbeat songs that allow him to thrust his hips, he decided to strip it down this week and sing “The Climb” by Miley Cyrus. He chose the tune because it represents his journey, but it was definitely a surprising choice! Zach’s voice definitely shone tonight and his performance was so beautiful — plus, he’s just soooo dreamy, right ladies?
Pharrell’s only remaining contestant, Madi Davis, was next to perform, and she decided to sing a unique version of “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” one of her all-time favorite songs. Ummm…talk about amazing! Once again, I’m totally in awe that this girl is only 16. “It was too perfect to be live! That was too perfect to be live!” Blake praised Madi. “So it’s going to be my three in the finale, and you, I guess? Come on!” The country star actually took the stage to perform his current single “Gonna” next, and we couldn’t help but notice how his girlfriend, Gwen, was beaming from her judges’ chair!
Next up, Emily Ann Roberts of Team Blake sang Dolly Parton’s “9 To 5,” an it was an especially big performance because Dolly is one of Emily’s idols, and she’s always considered her an inspiration. Her upbeat showing was SO fun to watch, and she sounded SO good. Emily Ann has been my favorite for weeks, and this performance totally solidified her spot in the finals in my mind!
Amy Vachal from Adam’s team was up next, and she decided to sing “Make You Feel My Love” by Bob Dylan. Rather than choose a huge, powerful song, Amy did what she does best: Stripped something down and gave a really raw, emotional performance. The Brookyn beauty has found herself in the Top 10 on the iTunes charts for the last three weeks, and after what she just did, I’m fairly certain she’ll be right back at the top of the pack again this week.
Closing out the night? Adam’s final contestant, Jordan Smith. It’s no surprise that they’d save the Season 9 frontrunner for last at this crucial point in the competition, and as usual, he didn’t falter for a second in his incredible performance of “Somebody To Love.” It was a little more upbeat than we’ve been seeing him do in the last few weeks, and it was the ABSOLUTE perfect transition. Of course, the crowd went totally nuts — there’s no doubt this guy is moving on!
It’s going to be SUCH a tough decision for the voters! Only FOUR of these NINE singers can make it through to next week, which is such a massive elimination. The Dec. 8 episode is sure to be emotional, and of course, we’ll keep you updated right here when the finalists are revealed!
