Lorde is that you?! The ‘Royals’ singer showed off a surprising new ‘do at LAX airport on Dec. 2, ditching her signature natural curls for shorter, ultra-straight strands. Curly or straight — which of Lorde’s looks do you prefer?
We’ve always been huge fans of Lorde‘s long, voluminous curls, but on Dec. 2 the New Zealand showed off a whole new look for us to obsess over. Ditching her famous curls for a shorter cut and super straight strands, Lorde looked amazing showing off her sleek new hairstyle, making it all the more difficult for us to decide which look we like best. Vote on your favorite style below!
Lorde is rarely spotted with her hair looking anything by long and curly, so the fact that she not only chopped of several inches of hair, but also straightened it, makes this a significant beauty move for the 19-year-old singer. Lorde was spotted showing off her sleek new style while touching down at LAX Airport with her dad, Vic, on Dec. 2 in Los Angles. Looking not the least bit like her former vampy self, the New Zealand native showed off straight, healthy-looking stands that hit just a couple inches below her shoulder.
Though the chest-length do may not look like a major cut compared to her previous style, keep in mind that she naturally has very spiral-y, defined curls, so when she reverts to her natural curly state, her hair might actually be closer to a long bob.
Of course, this isn’t the first time the Lorde — whose music you can stream HERE instantly with Amazon Prime music — has experimented with super straight hair. At the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund dinner on Nov. 2, she rocked a straight, slicked back ‘wet hair’ look that seems to have inspired her latest style.
While we loved seeing Lorde switch up her style, we also really love her super curly strands, so we asked the “king of curly hair,” Ricky Pennisi, to reveal his expert tips on how to style curly hair like Lorde’s natural style.
“Lorde’s curls are uniformed, defined and frizz-free,” said Ricky. “Great curls begin in the shower with a sulfate-free shampoo like RI CI Splash. Sulfate-free shampoos don’t strip the natural oils in your hair which prevents frizz and hair damage. Once you are out of shower, gently towel dry your hair and section your hair into three levels. Starting at the bottom and working your way to the top, apply RiCi Thirsty Styling Gel to define the curls, then, spray the RiCi Memory Setting Spray all over your hair to lock in the curls. This step blocks out the frizz and keeps curls in their place. Finally, use a diffuser to dry your hair to get big bouncy curls. A diffuser will enhance curls by 30% and is great for those who have naturally wavy or curly hair.”
