Poor Keith Urban. The country singer’s father, Robert Urban, passed away on Dec. 5 after battling cancer. While Keith is devastated over the loss, he says that his dad is ‘finally at peace.’
Keith Urban, 48, has lost a very important person in his life — his father. Robert Urban died on Dec. 5 following a courageous battle with cancer. Keith’s dad had been placed in hospice care just days before his death. Keith is mourning the loss of his father, but thanked his fans for the “outpouring of love and support” during this difficult time.
“I’ve been deeply touched by the outpouring of love and support that [Nicole Kidman] and I, and our family, have received since my Dad’s passing on Saturday night,” the singer said in a statement to PEOPLE. “His long battle with cancer is now over and he is finally at peace. My dad’s love of country music and America set me on my life’s journey, and shaped so much of who I am today…Thank you to everyone who has kept us all in your thoughts and prayers.”
This is so sad. Keith revealed on Dec. 2 at the Country Music Hall of Fame that his father had entered hospice care. “He’s probably only got a few weeks, if that,” Keith said at the event. “I’ve just been dealing with that the last couple of days. This has all come at a very strange time where it’s typical of a career that has extreme highs and extreme lows all often at the exact same time. So [the exhibit] is bittersweet a little bit because [my dad] is the catalyst for all of this. My dad is the catalyst for me living in America.”
It’s been a tough year for the American Idol judge, who is currently filming the final season of the show. Nicole’s father, Dr. Antony Kidman, passed away in Sept. 2014 after suffering a fall at a Singapore hotel.
