Make way for the latest and greatest iPhone! Apple’s next iPhone update reportedly isn’t due until September 2016, but rumors are already swirling about what amazing new features the company will be introducing with the iPhone 7. Read up on 5 of the biggest rumors here!
The next iPhone in the Apple family is set to be called the iPhone 7, and users of the company’s wildly popular mobile device are already looking forward to it despite the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus just being released in September 2015. Even though Apple users were thrilled about this year’s iPhone update, its rumored that the iPhone 7 will feature a brand new design that has fans even more excited to see the next model. But it’s not just the new design that has iPhone users buzzing — see what else is already rumored to be in store for the iPhone 7!
1. The expected all-new design will be even thinner than the 6.9mm iPhone 6.
Although a picture of a model has yet to be released, it is believed that Apple is working to create the thinnest iPhone to date. The new design will reportedly make for the most powerful and efficient iPhone yet. It’s also rumored that this would mean the phone would use a wireless charger.
2. If the phone’s design is even thinner than its previous models, the headphone jack will be removed from the iPhone 7.
This is the rumor that has likely freaked out even Apple’s most loyal customers, as it poses the question, “How will I listen to music?” According to Japanese site Mac Otakara, the elimination of the headphone jack will result in the introduction of a Lightning port that will require Lightning-equipped headphones. If this is the case, it is rumored that Apple may release EarPods with a Lightning connector with the new iPhone, also possibly creating adapters to allow users to still use headphones with the iPhone 7.
3. Apple is switching to glass-on-glass touch panels for its next iPhone.
The glass panels would potentially allow for a full edge-to-edge display, but some analysts have already shot down this rumor by suggesting that Apple is not switching from its current use of in-cell panels. If Apple opts for the edge-to-edge display, the iPhone 7 might also have fingerprint recognition on its display instead of just the home button.
4. The new design will also use new waterproof material.
There has been talk that the iPhone 7 will have a strengthened waterproof frame, using a different material than the former models’ aluminum casing. This would allow for the phone to not only be water resistant, but dust resistant as well.
5. The iPhone 7 may be released sooner than expected.
Apple has followed a pretty continuous schedule its iPhone releases, typically launching the new models every September. But AppleInsider.com reported that the company is considering an earlier release for the next update, possibly following the first four iPhone generations with an early summer launch.
