Um, where is Adele’s well-deserved Grammy nomination? Don’t worry, she wasn’t ignored by the Grammys… it’s that her album (and others) didn’t make the cut off date.
Adele, 27, is going to have to wait another year before her album, 25, receives a golden statue or five to join the ones already collecting dust inside her home. Unfortunately, other artists including One Direction, 5 Seconds of Summer, and more also didn’t made the cut. Bummer!
Oh, no… say it isn’t so! How is it possible that Adele’s incredible new album doesn’t have as many nominations as Taylor Swift‘s 1989 for the 2016 Grammys? Well, the answer is actually much more simple than you might expect: it was not released during the appropriate qualifying time frame.
You see, when it comes to the Grammys, music has to be released within a certain time period in order to qualify for the upcoming awards show. For the 2016 Grammys the dates were Oct. 1, 2014 to Sept. 30, 2015, which leaves out not just Adele’s album, released on Nov. 20, but also One Direction’s Made In The AM and Justin Bieber‘s Purpose.
But how was Justin’s “Where Are U Now” nominated, you ask? Well, that’s simple — the song is featured on Skrillex and Diplo‘s album, which was released on Feb. 24. As one of the biggest singles of the year, it would have been very hard for the Grammys to ignore it!
