The holidays are about reuniting with loved ones and creating new memories, but with the abundance of food, it’s also easy to pack on a few extra pounds. So in celebration of the Dec. 6 premiere of ‘Work Out New York,’ personal trainer Joe Lazo EXCLUSIVELY shared some fitness tips to follow.
Are you worried about keeping your workout routine going during the hectic holiday season? Or are you nervous that you might pack on some extra pounds after gorging on all the delicious food you’ll come across? Fear no more. Personal trainer Joe Lazo, who stars on Bravo’s new series Work Out New York, EXCLUSIVELY shared a number of crucial fitness tips with HollywoodLife.com, and they’ll certainly help you survive the holiday season.
Below, you’ll find three crucial fitness tips, which were EXCLUSIVELY given to HollywoodLife.com by Joe Lazo:
1. Try not to overeat. I know that sounds so simple and mundane, but it is unbelievable how many people just see and eat all through the day and then pass out from being full. If cutting a few pounds is your objective then absolutely pick on all the delicious food you have provided throughout the day, but pass on sitting down and having a formal “big meal” as well.
2. If you are traveling back home or to family member’s house, then make a workout regimen for yourself ahead of time and make sure you stick to it. It’s almost a guarantee that you are going to overeat, at least don’t add fuel to the fire by passing out and not workout for a few days on top of that.
3. Make a deal with yourself. You can eat the foods you love because let’s face it, it’s the holidays, but you must place a wager on your actions to indulge. For example: Every time you open your mouth to eat something, do 1 burpee. You’ll be surprised how fast you’ll get to 100 burpees before you even get to the dessert. Still want that apple pie with whipped cream?!

But even if you do want that dessert, there are a few options that you should absolutely avoid. “It’s hard to avoid desserts during the holidays, but some guidelines you should really set are: avoid dairy, any ice cream, whipped creams, custards, and heavy milks. These all contain sugars on top of the sugar you are adding for flavor. Also avoid starches such as pie crusts, and doughs. In a perfect world, you would want to stick with fruit-based options such as fruit salads, and nuts such as almonds,” Joe told us.
Work Out New York, which premieres on Bravo at 9 p.m. ET on Dec. 6, is a reality show about the Big Apple’s most passionate personal trainers.
