He’s a lucky man! Legendary actor Morgan Freeman dodged a bullet when the private plane he was on had to make an emergency landing after one of its tires was punctured during flight.
Morgan Freeman, 78, made a lucky escape when his private plane blew a tire, forcing the aircraft to make an emergency landing at a Mississippi airport on Dec. 5. Is Morgan OK after such a scary situation? Find out now!
The Shawshank Redemption actor was unarmed in the incident, PEOPLE reported. The SJ30 jet took off from Clarksdale, Mississippi, and made an emergency landing in Tunica about 40 miles away. The plane skid off the runway as it landed, causing more damage, Clarksdale mayor William Luckett told CNN. Morgan was not piloting the plane.
Morgan, in his usual calm demeanor, even put out a press release following the terrifying incident. If you close your eyes, it sounds exactly like a monologue he would deliver in one of his classic movies.
“Sometimes things don’t go as planned and a tire blew on takeoff which caused other problems,” Morgan said in a statement. “But thanks to my excellent pilot Jimmy Hobson we landed safely without a scratch,” he added. “I cannot say the same about my plane. I appreciate the concern and prayers for our safety.”
Wise words, indeed. The actor was set to fly to Texas to shoot a segment for the series The Story of God. Morgan is no stranger to getting into scrapes. Back in 2008, he was involved in a horrific car crash in Mississippi and had to be airlifted to the hospital with multiple broken bones. Watch Morgan’s best movies on Amazon now!
