Does Katy Perry have a new career path? The singer became a weather newscaster for a special UNICEF video on how climate change will dramatically and negatively impact the lives of millions of children around the world. Watch the video below!
Katy Perry, 31, has proved she has plenty of talents, but she can now add weather reporter to her list! A UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2013, Katy’s latest gig for the program made her a newscaster for a day, giving a mock weather report on climate change to highlight the impact it has on children around the world. Considering she has no prior reporting experience, Katy made one impressive newscaster!
Looking flawless as always in a burgundy pantsuit, Katy stresses in her report that we are seeing more extreme weather everywhere before getting into specifics. Despite the seriousness of the matter, she did manage to add a little lightheartedness to the report with a song reference. “As a California Girl, I’m not the only one experiencing drought,” she says in the video. Katy then points out that climate change has resulted in tropical cyclone patterns in the Philippines, devastating floods in Bangladesh, and the spreading of mosquitos and malaria in East Africa. All of these issues are affecting millions of children worldwide, as kids are the “first to suffer,” according to Katy’s report.
“And the forecast is: conditions will worsen,” Katy stresses at the end of the minute-long video. “So, please join me in supporting UNICEF to change the forecast for children. Fight Unfair.”
Katy’s report is her attempt to convince world leaders to take climate change seriously as they meet in Paris at COP 21, the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties to “achieve a legally binding and universal agreement on climate,” a release from UNICEF reads. We think the UNICEF Ambassador definitely helped get the important message across!
Do you think Katy was convincing as a weather reporter, HollywoodLifers?
