This is beyond horrible. The San Bernardino tragedy has thousands of people mourning around the world, and now we have learned the names of the 14 victims. We’re heartbroken to hear that the youngest victim of the massacre, Aurora Godoy, leaves behind a son named Alex who will be two years old in January.
The San Bernardino shooting killed over a dozen innocent people, and the pain felt by their families is unimaginable. Aurora Godoy, 26, was the youngest person to lose her life in the Dec. 2 tragedy. It’s crushing to learn that she leaves behind her devoted husband and toddler son, Alexander, barely 2, who will never know his mother because of this atrocious act. Here is everything you need to know about Aurora and her loved ones.
There’s no rhyme or reason to this massacre, which left 14 people dead and 21 injured. We can, however, honor the memories of the victims, and respect their families. Aurora Godoy was an office assistant from San Jacinto, and had “a wide smile and an open heart”, according to the Los Angeles Times. Her husband, James, said they met in 2003 at a Junior ROTC class in high school. The sweethearts dated for eight years, then eloped in 2012. After buying their first home together, Aurora gave birth to baby Alexander. James told the LA Times that Aurora loved their precious son more than anything: “It was all about him,” he said.
The young mom had attended culinary school, and was just a few credits short of completing her associate degree. After working for the San Bernardino County elections office for three years, she got a job in the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health in January to support her small family. She was then mercilessly killed at that fateful holiday party on Dec. 2nd. “Disbelief is the word,” James said. “Disbelief.” Aurora’s aunt, Rebecca Godoy, also wrote on Facebook that the family “will keep her flame alive so that her young son does not forget his special mother. God bless us all.”
If you want to help out Aurora’s family, you can visit the support page that has been set up in Aurora’s name. “They are amazing people who need as much love and support they can get,” wrote Karina Kenney, who created the page. “The Godoy’s are more than coworkes or friends, they are family.”
