The production promises to be nothing like the 1978 film, as we’re going to be treated to modern dance moves like the “nae nae” and the “quan.” We’ll also get to see some amazing acrobatic feats as the telecast will be co-produced by Cirque du Soleil. The telecast will also feature a brand new song, “We Got It” with lyrics by Ne-Yo and music by Elijah, who told Broadway World, “I think when the world hears it, it’ll become bigger than just a song. It’s moment in time in a legendary production that we’re blessed to be a part of.”
We’ll also be keeping an eye on a star in the making with Shanice. It’s her first major role after being discovered in an open casting call for the part, and prior to this she had only done local theater in New York and her native New Jersey. Stephanie played Dorothy in the original Broadway production of “The Wiz,” but this time around she will play Auntie Em, and she has given the new Dorothy her blessing in the part. Stephianie told the Grio, “I’ve given (Shanice) love. She’s 2015 Dorothy. It’s hers. I did my part 40 years ago, so it’s hers. It’s hers.” You can buy a copy of “The Wiz, Live!” by clicking here.
We’ve already told you about the show stopping costumes to be on the lookout for. They include Shanice’s modern Dorothy outfit — a denim bomber jacket, a plaid skater mini skirt, and cool red leather sneakers and Uzo’s stunning gold ball gown that features a plunging neckline and a huge poofy skirt.
