‘The Wiz Live!’ was everything and more, with its all-star cast and its stunning sets and costumes, it was simply perfection. Fans flooded to Twitter with universal praise for the amazing production.
NBC was THE place to be Dec. 3 for an absolutely epic staging of The Wiz. It featured a mega-talented cast headed by newcomer Shanice Williams as Dorothy, in her first major role. Her stage presence and breathtaking voice made sure this was going to be an amazing journey down the Yellow Brick Road. We can’t imagine anyone else doing such an iconic performance so early in their career! She absolutely nailed it alongside Elijah Kelley, who played the Scarecrow, as they sang the classic “Ease On Down The Road.”
Fans came out in praise on Twitter for mega-thrilling performances like Wicked Witch Of The West Mary J. Blige‘s “Don’t Nobody Bring Me No Bad News,” The Tin Man Ne-Yo‘s “What Would I Do If I Could Feel,” and The Wiz herself Queen Latifah‘s breathtaking “Believe in Yourself, ” which Uzo Aduba‘s Glinda reprised in the finale just to name a few. Every cast member shined during their moment in the spotlight and knocked every number out of the park. Here’s a sampling among the Twittersphere of fans reactions to the milestone musical:

#TheWiz portrayed the diversity of our people so nicely. Locks, twists, braids & kinks & all shades of melanin. I love the representation.

Other members of the cast included Amber Riley, (Addaperle), Stephanie Mills, (Auntie Em),(Dorothy), Common as the Bouncer/Gatekeeper, and David Alan Grier as the Cowardly Lion. The production was especially meaningful to the African-American community, especially after some knuckleheads on Twitter who were unaware of The Wiz‘s history called it racist. The show was a compete triumph and beautiful entertainment, pure and simple! To purchase your own copy of The Wiz Live, click here
