A shocking video reveals the moment police began firing at San Bernardino shooting suspects, Syed Rizwan Farook and Tashfeen Malik, during a wild car chase. The couple reportedly threw a pipe bomb as authorities sped after them down a residential street…and it was all caught on camera. Watch here.
Syed Farook, 28, and Tashfeen Malik, 27, were chased down by police after opening fire at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino on Dec. 2, and the hunt was captured on video by a bystander. In the clip, officers rushed after the married couple’s black SUV as they tried to escape, eventually resulting in a shootout that left the suspects dead.
A man in a house nearby was filming as the cars drove down the street — surprisingly slowly at first — and eventually, gunshots can be heard in the background. At one point, a flashing light can be seen, which is suspected to be a pipe bomb thrown by the suspects while attempting to elude the authorities. Once realizing the situation taking place on the street was definitely dangerous, the man capturing the events shut his camera off and went inside, but the chase ended with police killing Syed and Tashfeen, although the couple was firing back with shots of their own (one officer was injured in the shootout).
Syed, who is an American citizen and county environmental inspector, was attending a holiday party at the Inland Regional Center, but left “angry,” returning later with his wife. The pair were armed with rifles and began shooting at innocent victims, ultimately killing 14 and injuring 17. They also left three explosive devices behind before escaping in a black SUV.
As the tragic scene unfolded, police finally tracked the suspects down to a residence in Redlands, California, and when they surrounded the home, Syed and Tashfeen left in their car, which is how the chase began. Another suspect was detained at the scene, although it is still unclear what, if any, his connection is. Meanwhile, authorities are still trying to figure out what the married duo’s motive was for firing shots during this tragic event.
Our thoughts remain with the victims of this senseless tragedy. We will continue to update you with news from San Bernardino as it happens.
