We were shocked when Kanye West sabotaged Taylor Swift’s big win at the 2009 VMAs, but it may have had a positive affect on his life. During his Shoe Of The Year acceptance speech at the 29th FN Achievement Awards, Kanye said he went into hiding and just started designing.
Kanye West shockingly thanked Taylor Swift in his Shoe of the Year acceptance speech at the 29th FN Achievement Awards on Wednesday, Dec. 3. Well, sort of. During his nearly-20 minute speech, the rapper said that he went into exile after sabotaging her big win at the 2009 VMAs, and it was then that he started designing. So we now have Taylor to thank for those Yeezy Boosts!
“After the infamous Taylor Swift moment did a sort of self exile just to get away from paparazzi and have people not, you know, just f***ing with me, really. And the first thing I did was I went to Japan and it was me and Virgil Abloh, who has the brand Off White, and we just sat on a computer every day with this idea of designing. We designed on the computer so much we started to joke, ‘hey, did you wash my jpg?’”
So could the whole Taylor fiasco be the reason why we can now own our very own Yeezy Boosts? It seems that way. And if so, then we’re totally okay with the fact that Kanye stole Taylor’s thunder at the 2009 VMAs. Sorry, T-Swizzle — we still love you.
Kanye also talked about fashion shows in Paris and presidential bids, but his mention of Taylor Swift was what interested us the most. It’s so shocking that he went into exile after that infamous moment.
