Is Tiger Woods ready to hang up his golf clubs?! Now that Kobe Bryant has announced he’s retiring from basketball, the pro golfer has been thinking long and hard about his own career, and HollywoodLife.com has EXCLUSIVELY learned that he may be ready to walk away, too.
Tiger Woods has had a stellar career, but he’s starting to think that his days on the golf course are up. The 39-year-old is contemplating retirement, and he was actually inspired by Kobe Bryant, who just announced he’ll be ending his basketball career after this season, to take this next step.
“Tiger has seen Kobe’s announcement like the rest of the world and he feels where Kobe is coming from,” an insider tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “He is contemplating retiring himself. He would have already done it, but he had to fulfill many of his sponsorships that require him to get paid if he plays. But Tiger has lost the love to play anymore and would like to retire sooner than later.”
This news shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, especially considering the 39-year-old has been struggling on the course and with injuries recently. But, still, he has yet to confirm any speculation that he’s ready to officially finish his career as a professional athlete. “There is no timetable for this and that’s been the hardest adjustment — that I don’t know,” he explained recently. “So where is the light at the end of the tunnel? I don’t know, so that’s been hard.”
In another telling interview, Tiger opened up about Kobe’s decision, and definitely seemed to be able to relate. “You add up all those games, it takes a toll on the body,” he said of the NBA star’s few injury-plagued seasons recently. “And eventually, it just doesn’t heal anymore. That sport is so fast and so athletic and quick. It’s just tough. It’s been tough to watch him go through the season he’s had. And understandably so, he’s been there for 20 years.”
The 37-year-old announced his retirement on Nov, 29, as the Lakers were struggling with a 2-13 record for the start of their 2015-16 season. “My body knows it’s time to say goodbye,” he wrote in an open letter. “And that’s OK. I’m ready to let you go. I want you to know now so we both can savor every moment we have together. The good and the bad. We have given each other all that we have. And we both know, no matter what I do next, I’ll always be that kid with the rolled up socks, garbage can in the corner, :05 seconds in the clock, ball in my hands”
