Sandra Bullock announced Dec. 2 that she adopted a beautiful 3 1/2 year-old girl, Laila, but keeping this a secret while she fostered her and then went through the adoption process was very tough! Sandra reveals that they even went to the hospital before the news came out and she was terrified the news would get out when Laila’s pic was taken by the paparazzi!
Sandra Bullock did everything she could to keep the adoption of her daughter Laila, 3 1/2, a secret because she wanted to protect her precious new addition. Sandra, who did the same thing when she adopted her now 5-year-old son, Louis, tells People, that she was worried that if Laila’s identity became public during such a critical time in their bonding process, that it would damage Laila. She was also concerned that CPS (child protective services) would take Laila away because she wasn’t shielding her from her crazy celebrity life.
“You feel it’s very much like witness protection,” Sandra revealed in the exciting and emotional interview. She reveals in early October they had to go to the hospital for reasons she doesn’t divulge and says that a photographer followed her there and snapped a pic of Laila. “Unbeknownst to me, a photographer had followed us and taken a photo of us in line. The next day, I learned that a photo of her was being shopped around for sale to every outlet around the world. I had promised and legally agreed to protect her from something like this, and here I was chasing down lawyers — having them begging them to keep her safe.” Wow, we are so happy that Sandra was able to keep the news under wraps until she was ready to tell their story.
The best part of Sandra’s interview is when she reveals that it was Louis’ idea to adopt Laila. “Louis spearheaded this whole journey,” Sandra said. “I did remind him that it could be either a brother or a sister and that we would be so lucky to have either one. He did specify that he wanted a sibling who has some brown skin. When Laila finally came to us and we were getting visits from CPS, there was an afternoon when we were outside and Louis saw their car pull up and he ran next to Laila and asked the CPS workers why they were there. They replied that they were there to see if Laila was okay. He replied, ‘You’re not going to take her away, are you?’ And at that moment, I knew I could stop worrying about whether I had found the right match.”
