Say what?! The CEO of Facebook just announced that he will be donating 99 perfect of his stock in the company — currently about $45 billion — to honor the birth of his first child, Max. Find out all the details, including why he’s giving it all away, here.
Mark Zuckerberg, 31, made two huge announcements on Dec. 1 — both of which were pretty epic and life-changing. First, the Facebook CEO announced the birth of his baby girl, Max. And then, he revealed he’ll be donating 99 percent of his stock in the company in honor of her arrival into the world. So, essentially, he’ll be giving away $45 billion. Find out where all the money will be going.
Mark and wife Priscilla Chan have formed the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, which he said will “join people across the world to advance human potential and promote equality for all children in the next generation.”
“Our initial areas of focus will be personalized learning, curing disease, connecting people and building strong communities,” he said in a letter to their daughter. They will donate nearly all of their Facebook stock to the cause.
“We will give 99% of our Facebook shares — currently about $45 billion — during our lives to advance this mission. We know this is a small contribution compared to all the resources and talents of those already working on these issues. But we want to do what we can, working alongside many others,” Mark also wrote in his message. To read the entire letter, click here.
We love how Mark calls $45 billion a “small contribution.” He should be very proud of himself. With that much money, he’s definitely going to make a huge, positive impact on the world.
What do YOU think, HollywoodLifers? Are you shocked to hear Mark is donating nearly all of his fortune to this cause?
