Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, 56, was the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2015 Soul Train Awards on Nov. 29, and he received an incredible tribute to go along with it! Boyz II Men, Brandy and Bobby Brown all took to the stage to perform an unforgettable medley featuring some of the legendary writer/producer’s most iconic ’90s jams. Seriously, it’s like the best of the ’90s all wrapped into one! Click here to watch!
What an amazing performance by all! Just when you thought it couldn’t get any better than seeing Babyface himself on the piano, a handful of top artists took the stage alongside him to show everyone just how important his music is to the world. To kick things off, Brandy, 36, wowed the crowd with a performance of her 1995 hit “Sittin Up In My Room,” which immediately got everyone up on their feet and dancing.
After Brandy came Fantasia Barrino, 31, singing a soulful rendition of “Exhale (Shoop Shoop) by the late Whitney Houston and “Superwoman” by Karyn White — both of which were written and produced by the man of the hour. Surely, no one enjoyed the performance more than Babyface, as he sang along to his very own song from behind the piano. Fantasia definitely made him proud by killing those signature Whitney high notes at the end — she even got Babyface up on his feet!
Next up, was Boyz II Men, who serenaded the crowd a memorable performance of their hit “I’ll Make Love to You.” The romantic R&B jam had the whole crowd singing along, naturally. The trio then busted out their epic ’90s ballad “The End of the Road,” which practically shut down the house as us ’90s kids freaked out at home.
Babyface received the 2015 Lifetime Achievement Award in honor of his 25 years of songwriting and producing. Though an entertainer in his own right, Babyface is perhaps most famous for his work with such chart-topping acts as Whitney Houston, Toni Braxton, TLC, Usher, Michael Jackson and countless others. Congrats!
