Damn — tell us how you really feel, Will Smith. The 47-year-old actor opened up about his 17-year marriage to Jada Pinkett at the Nov. 23 premiere of his new movie, ‘Concussion,’ where he said despite their refusal to split, their relationship is both ‘grueling’ and ‘excruciating.’
Will Smith, 47, and Jada Pinkett Smith, 44, have been married for 17 years, but it’s no secret that their relationship has been plagued by breakup rumors for almost just as long. So, are they really heading for a divorce? Well, during the Nov. 23 premiere of his new movie, Concussion, Will talked about his marriage to Jada, and he didn’t have the nicest words to say.
But even though Will didn’t use the most positive words — he told Entertainment Tonight that their marriage is both “grueling” and “excruciating” — they have no plans to end their relationship.
“We’ve been married 20 years and we’ve been asking ourselves [what’s the secret to marriage] and really at the end of the day it’s just not quitting,” Will said. “You can’t expect it to be easy. It’s like our marriage was the most difficult, grueling, excruciating thing that we have ever taken on in our lives. And you know we’re just not quitters.”
So what’s the secret to maintaining a good marriage? “I would say is that we never went into working on our relationship. We only ever worked on ourselves individually, and then presented ourselves to one another better than we were previously.” Interesting.
Will and Jada started dating in 1995, and they got married just two years later. Unfortunately, they’re frequently plagued with divorce rumors, and just this August, Will took to Facebook in an effort to squash the rumors.
“So, in the interest of redundant, repetitious, over & over-again-ness… Jada and I are…NOT GETTING A DIVORCE!!!!!!!!!!!!! I promise you all – if I ever decide to divorce my Queen – I SWEAR I’ll tell you myself! #Dumb People Should Have to Wear Scarlet D’s,” he wrote.
