We’re all wondering the same thing — where was Blake Shelton during Gwen Stefani’s big night at the AMAs!? Don’t worry, even though he didn’t show up, the country star is still SO supportive, and HollywoodLife.com has EXCLUSIVELY learned why Gwen’s actually glad he wasn’t in the audience.
Relax, everyone: Just because Blake Shelton wasn’t cheering girlfriend, Gwen Stefani, on from the crowd at the American Music Awards on Nov. 22 doesn’t mean there’s trouble in paradise for the couple! The 39-year-old actually didn’t attend the show on purpose, and his ladylove was totally relieved about it. Get the scoop here!
“Blake wanted Gwen to have her moment — have her song be sung without the AMAs cameras checking for his reaction every two seconds,” an insider tells HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY. “It wasn’t that type of song and wasn’t that type of night. He was very proud of her, but wanted it to be her moment and didn’t wan to ruin it in any way. And she was very appreciative that he chose to do that — Gwen respects him even more after he showed that he isn’t selfish and just looking for his own screen time.”
The 46-year-old performed her emotional song “Used To Love You” at the show, which she wrote as her marriage to Gavin Rossdale fell apart earlier this year. And even though he wasn’t in the crowd, Blake made sure to show his love on Twitter before and after Gwen took the stage.
“Prepare for greatness..#AmericanMusicAwards,” he tweeted, just moments before the No Doubt singer was set to take the stage. Awww..and greatness is most certainly what we saw from Gwen’s killer performance! Afterward, Blake responded to a fan who tweeted, “I thought her performance was the best of the show. Fabulous,” by adding the simple but sweet: “Agreed…”
Although things are definitely heating up between these two, we can respect their decision to not totally rub the romance in everyone’s face. It looks like we’re going to have to live off their subtle, but totally sweet, flirting on The Voice for now — a new, live episode of the show airs Nov. 23!
HollywoodLifers, do you think Blake should’ve shown up for the AMAs? Or do you agree with his decision to let the night be about Gwen?
