Get excited, Directioners — one of the guys may be reuniting with Zayn Malik for a brand new project! The singer revealed he finally started talking to Liam Payne again (for the FIRST time since leaving the group), and that the duo have big plans to collaborate when 1D goes on a break.
Uh-oh, is Liam Payne, 22, the next one who will tragically leave One Direction? Okay, we won’t get ahead of ourselves, but Zayn Malik, who left the group in March, has revealed in a new interview that he and Liam are planning on working together soon — and he also admitted that they just recently spoke for the very first time in several months after a falling out. Get the scoop on what went down!
When the 22-year-old left the band, it understandably created a bit of a rift between him, Liam, Niall Horan, 22, Harry Styles, 21, and Louis Tomlinson, 23. But, time heals all wounds, and things are slowly getting better. “I spoke to Liam about two weeks ago,” Zayn told Fader. “It was the first time I’d spoken to him since I left the band, and I rung him, and he wanted to talk. He said that he didn’t understand it at the time, but he now fully gets why I had to do what I did. He understands that it’s my thing, that I had to do that, and that basically he wants to meet up and sit down and have a good chat in person, and he wants to do some music and work on some stuff aside from being in the band, which we always wanted to do anyway.”
The guys of 1D actually appeared in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres on Nov. 18, during which they admitted it’s pretty awkward and tense to talk about Zayn. And, when asked if they still talked to him, Liam was the only one to respond! He confirmed what Zayn said — that they’d spoken “a couple of times,” — but the rest of the group just giggled to fill the silence. Does this mean that Zayn hasn’t talked to anyone but Liam since leaving?!
Okay, we can totally understand that there’s a lot of weirdness here…especially since Zayn is so open about how much better off he is without the group. “It’s a nice feeling to come out of a place where you are being told what to do and just to be upset because of certain expectations or certain things that people wanted to see,” he told the mag. “This is just all my perspective and that’s fully liberating. I won’t be able to give you one standout moment where I was like this is what I want to do, because I guess I just always kind of knew [I would leave].”
Yikes! He also totally dissed 1D in the interview by saying their music isn’t what he would listen to, and that “there was never room for me to experiment creatively in the band.” Well, we’re glad he’s happy where he is now, but we really hope he doesn’t hold any ill will toward the five years he was with One Direction!
HollywoodLifers, are you shocked Liam and Zayn have just started talking again!? Are you excited to hear the music they work on together?
