Karl Lagerfeld just can’t seem to get enough of Kristen Stewart, 25, and we don’t blame him! After casting KStew in a number of stunning Chanel campaigns, the house’s creative directer has tapped the Twilight star once again, this time as the star of his latest short film, Once and Forever. Taking on the role of of the brand’s iconic founder, Coco Chanel, Kristen gives a memorable performance as “a fiery young actress” that is full of emotion. Get the details here!
We’re so excited for this! The 11-minute film, which is set to premiere at Chanel’s Metiers d’Art show in Rome on December 1, sees Kristen in the role of “a fiery young actress” brought in to portray a young Gabrielle Chanel in a biopic, only to lock horns with practically everyone on the set of the production. Going from sweet and tender one minute to a hot-tempered diva the next, Kristen seems to only have affection for the legendary character that she portrays, as well as her co-star Geraldine Chaplin, who reprises her role as the iconic designer in her twilight years. “She [Kristen] can look like Chanel, and I wanted to show Chanel through all the decades of her life and the comeback in the 1950’s,” explains Karl in a press release.
“I think she’s one of the greatest actors of her generation,” he adds in an interview with our sister publication WWD. “She gives the right emotion and the right intensity immediately so it’s very easy to work her, like it’s easy to work with Geraldine.”
Still, the film, which marks the first time KStew has slipped into the skin of Coco Chanel, was more than a little challenging for the Still Alice actress. Though conceived with her in mind, Kristen revealed to WWD that the cast didn’t receive scripts prior to shooting, as Karl preferred to give them their lines on set. The film was then shot over the course of just two days at Luc Besson‘s Paris studio. Talk about pressure!
Kristen of course, is something of a Chanel pro though by now, having worked with the fashion house on three separate Chanel campaigns. The A-lister can currently be seen in the Chanel Spring/Summer 2015 eyewear campaign and previously posed for the brand’s 11.12 handbag Spring 2015 ads. She was also the face of the Métiers d’art Paris-Dallas 2013/14 collection, which marked her debut campaign for the fashion label.
When she isn’t shooting stunning campaigns for the fashion house, Kristen can also be seen in the front row at Karl’s runway shows or rocking Chanel on the red carpet — in fact, she’s even walked in a Chanel couture show!
What do you think of Kristen’s new role, HollywoodLifers? Are you excited for her Chanel film debut?
