New feud alert! Derek Jeter and 50 Cent are in a war of words after the Yankees legend reportedly called the rapper “too urban” to rep his high-class underwear line. Fiddy’s response? Boycott the Yankees, go Mets!!
There’s major beef between Derek Jeter and 50 Cent after a lawsuit alleged the Yankees great wouldn’t allow 50 Cent to star in the ad campaign for his underwear line, Frigo; the rapper would make the brand appear “too urban.” Those are some fighting words, Derek! Fiddy responded on Instagram, clearly shocked by the allegations.
“Wow, guess I’m not a Yankees fan anymore. 😳 LETS GO METS? Man you can’t trust nobody these day.smh #EFFENVODKA #FRIGO #SMSAUDIO,” 50 Cent captioned his Instagram, a photo of Derek wearing his Yankees uniform, looking stoic, and a little bit morose, on the field.
Derek signed a three-year deal in 2011 to be a director of underwear company Frigo, according to a lawsuit filed against him in Sweden. The lawsuit, obtained by TMZ Sports, claims that the company lost close to $30 million in 2013, after Derek decided to renegotiate his deal, stating that he didn’t want his involvement with the brand to go public when it launched in the United States.
That’s not the problem here, although Derek is facing a $4.7 million settlement. Yikes! When Derek wanted to remove himself as the face of the campaign, the company wanted 50 Cent to take his place. But, according to company majority owner Mathias Ingvarsson, Derek fought their choice, because 50 Cent was “too urban.” Gross, Derek. Clearly, the revelation was shocking, and disgusting, to 50 Cent. Derek really cost his former team a loyal fan after this controversy!
