HollywoodLife.com spoke to Charlie Sheen’s longtime friend, stylist Phillip Bloch, who tells us that Charlie is very ‘brave’ to come forward with his HIV-positive diagnosis and hopes the actor will now slow down his partying lifestyle, ‘he likes to party and live life to the fullest.’
Charlie Sheen admitted to the world on Nov. 17 that he is HIV-positive. Many are worried about Charlie, 50, including his doctor who appeared alongside him on The Today Show and said he’s worried Charlie will turn to drugs and forget to take his medication. HollywoodLife.com spoke to Phillip Bloch, who has known Charlie for over 15 years, and told us that he hopes Charlie can take his diagnosis and turn it into something positive, “Charlie is the kind of guy that takes responsibility for what he’s done.”
“He’s a wild guy, he’s a cool, fun, wild guy,” Phillip tells HollywoodLife.com. “He’ll make some changes for the better and live a more saner lifestyle maybe … the more normal, quote on quote lifestyle but you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Charlie is a wild guy, he’s a fun party guy. He likes to party, he likes to live his life to the fullest and those are choices you make at a very early age.” Phillip also adds: “I’m shocked but not surprised [that he’s HIV-positive] he’s definitely led a promiscuous and wild and very fun life. He’s definitely done some things he knew he shouldn’t have done along the way, as many of us party boys have done and I think Charlie is the kind of guy that takes responsibility for what he’s done. He’s known he’s not always been the good guy and he’s not blaming anybody for it. I think the important thing to remember is, it’s not a death sentence.”
The news first broken in The National Enquirer and RadarOnline.com and both claimed that Charlie had a “long history” of sleeping with porn stars and strippers and has allegedly slept with over 5,000 women. But Philip has a message to all the haters who say Charlie deserves this because he led a reckless life. “I find it very brave [that he’s coming forward] and I think it’s very important that people understand it takes a lot to do that, and I always say in situations, let he who lives without sin cast the first stone. I’m sure many people say he deserves it, he led a promiscuous life, he was wild, he did this and he did that but no one can judge someone else’s life, you haven’t walked a mile in their shoes … One of the great things about Charlie, he has never pretended to be a celebrity or a super star who’s not real, he’s always been very real and very honest and very down to earth — he’s human. He’s admitted his mistakes.”
Charlie admitted to Matt that he is battling HIV and been for four years: “I’m here to admit that I am in fact HIV-positive.” Adding, “It started with crushing headaches and sweating the bed 2-3 nights — I thought it was over. It’s a hard three letters to absorb, you know? It’s a turning point in one’s life.” Charlie also shockingly revealed that he has paid upwards of $10 million dollars to silence individuals who wanted to out his diagnosis to the world: “I have paid those people — not that many — but enough to where it has depleted the future … Enough to bring it into the millions. What people forget is that that’s money they’re taking from my children. They think it’s just me, but I have five kids and a granddaughter.”
The most uplifting part of all of this is that Phillip tells us that Charlie most definitely has the support of his entire family. “Because he is surrounded by a lot of love from his brothers, his nephews, Emilio‘s [Estevez] kids worked with him as assistants, Denise [Richards], Brooke [Muller] the kids, his dad they are all very very close, he has a lot of support. That support has gotten him through other bad times in his career and in his life. I love Charlie, I think the world of him and I think he’s done so many great things for people … he has a heart of gold. He is a kind and a considerate guy.”
