The only drugs Charlie Sheen is taking now are his HIV medications, but is the ‘Anger Management’ star still drinking? Charlie revealed on ‘Today’ whether or not he’s given up alcohol, even as his doctor said he was ‘petrified’ by the thought of Charlie getting too drunk to take care of himself!
Has Charlie Sheen, 50, sobered up? The former star of Two And A Half Men said he gave up doing drugs since he found out he was HIV positive, but has he put down the bottle as well? While speaking with Matt Lauer, 57, Charlie revealed if he was still hitting the booze, even after his diagnosis.
“My biggest concern, with Charlie as a patient, is substance abuse and depression from the disease more than what the HIV virus in terms of shortening his life, because it’s not going to,” Dr. Robert Huizenga told Matt during the Nov. 17 episode of TODAY. Charlie’s physician joined him to help answer any questions over Charlie’s diagnosis, and Matt wanted to know if Charlie if he was still doing drugs.
“No, I’m not,” said Charlie. When asked if he was still drinking, Charlie admitted that he’s “still drinking, a little bit.” Matt then asked Charlie’s doctor if he could be trusted to take his pills every day, since they’re vital to his health.
Though Dr. Robert said he was “petrified” in fear that Charlie might slip up and forget to take his pills, he said that “Magically, somehow in incredible personal mayhem he has continued to take these medications.” He was confident that Charlie will stick to his medication regimen.
Charlie better listen to his doctor because these medications have done wonders for his health. Thanks to these drugs, HIV has dropped to “undetectable” levels in Charlie’s blood. Because of this low virus load, it’s unlikely that Charlie can pass the disease to a sexual partner — so long as he practices safe sex. That also means no more “coke fueled sex romps,” no more drunken drive-thru visits, no more putting himself or others in danger by being irresponsible.
Matt still thought that Charlie needed to give up the booze. “A lot of people [will say] ‘Charlie, you should stop drinking,'” Matt said, to which Charlie replied that “Perhaps the freedom of today might lead to [not drinking] as well.”
Do you think Charlie will give up alcohol, HollywoodLifers? Will he go sober so he can stay healthy?
