Following the horrific attacks on Paris, Bernie Sanders went after Hillary Clinton for supporting the invasion of Iraq by suggesting it led to the rise of ISIS. Whose side are YOU on?
Bernie Sanders, 74, let the United States know that he does not agree with Hillary Clinton, 68, when it comes to invading the middle east. At the second Democratic Debate of presidential candidates for the 2016 election, the senator revealed that he believes the Iraq invasion, which Hillary supported, led to the rise of ISIS. That’s a low blow to the Secretary of State, especially after the massacre in Paris, France on Nov. 13 that ISIS claimed full responsibility for.
“I have one area of disagreement with the secretary,” Bernie told the nation just 15 minutes in to the second Democratic Debate on Saturday night, Nov. 14, live from Des Moines, Iowa. “I think she said something like, ‘the bulk of the responsibility is not ours.’ Well, in fact, I would argue that the disastrous invasion of Iraq, something that I strongly opposed, has unraveled the region completely… and led to the rise of Al Queda and to ISIS.”
In case you’re unfamiliar with the topic, Hillary voted in favor of president George W. Bush‘s plan to invade and occupy Iraq after America was attacked on September 11, 2011. Unfortunately, her decision is something that has been repeatedly used against her in her bid for the White House.
Sadly, Bernie bringing up the rise of ISIS comes at a terrible time. Just 24 hours before the candidates stepped on stage for the second debate, the city of Paris, France was brutally attacked leaving over 100 citizens dead and many injured. Even worse is that ISIS has already claimed responsibility for the attacks, and even threatened that more are on the way.
Bernie’s statement against Hillary came after he was asked to clarify his stance on climate change being the nation’s biggest threat. “In fact, climate change is directly related to the growth of terrorism,” he explained. “And if we do not get our act together and listen to what the scientists say, you’re going to see countries all over the world, this is what the CIA says, they’re going to be struggling over limited amounts of water, limited amounts of land to grow their crops, and you’re going to see all kinds of international conflict.”
However, he agreed with Hillary that “international terrorism is a major issue that we have got to address today.”
HollywoodLifers, are you shocked that Bernie put Hillary’s support of Iraq on blast? Do you think he did so because of the recent attacks in Paris? Comment below with your thoughts.
