Congratulations are in store for HBO funny man John Oliver and his wife Kate Norley. The couple has welcomed their first child, a healthy baby boy. Such happy news!
Baby joy! John Oliver, 38, is now a proud and happy first time dad. The Last Week Tonight host and his wife Kate Norley are now parents to a bouncing baby boy. There’s no word yet on what they’ve named their new arrival, but we’re sure the British comedian and former longtime The Daily Show correspondent is going to make an amazing papa!
“John and his wife Kate are parents of a baby boy,” an HBO rep confirmed. “Everybody is happy and healthy.” The couple tied the knot back in 2011, after three years of dating. Their love story began in 2008 when John was covering the Republican National Convention for The Daily Show, while Kate was there with fellow veterans. She is an Iraq war vet who served as a combat medic for the U.S. Army, so we’re sure as tough as she is, the baby delivery was no problem!
The British comedian has used his HBO show as a platform to address maternity leave policies in the United States, so now that he’s a dad it should be interesting to hear him discuss the topic even more. He’s laid into the U.S.’ policy that states only women who have been employed full-time for more than one year at a company with at least 50 people are entitled for 12 weeks of unpaid leave.
“What that means is that 40 percent of workers are not covered under the federal law,” John noted on his show. “So if a worker with no paid leave goes into labor at work, she better hope it’s on her lunch hour and that her co-workers don’t mind if the break room gets a bit messy.”
