It was a ‘very intense’ labor for Jessa Duggar that resulted in a scary trip to the emergency room. The reality star gave birth to her first child, a baby boy, but her home birth didn’t go according to plan. Click for the alarming details of the new mom’s nearly 48-hour delivery.
Jessa Duggar, 23, and her husband Ben Seewald, 20, welcomed their precious son on Nov. 5 and they couldn’t be happier. Sadly, her birth plan had some changes do to a scary emergency that unfolded after Baby Seewald arrived.
Baby Seewald came into the world weighing a healthy 9 lb., 11 oz. and was 21.5-in. long. “Labor is hard,” Jessa revealed to People magazine. “It was very intense, very long. Everything was different than I expected.” Hard is an understatement. The new mom went through 10 hours of contractions that made her rethink her all-natural birth plan. “I said, ‘That’s it! I’m done! I am going to the hospital and I’m going to get an epidural,’ ” she recalled. “They asked me if I really wanted to do that and I said, ‘No, I don’t, but I do.’ I wanted to try natural if at all possible.”
Then both happiness and fear came in barreling in all at once. Baby Seewald finally arrived, but their joy was quickly interrupted. Jessa began bleeding so much that her midwife became concerned and Michelle Duggar, 49, stepped in to call 911. Jessa stated that, “I tried to keep my head, I was awake and alert. I had dreamed about those first moments, getting to breastfeed right away, all that. And so when I had to go to the hospital, it was a shock.” So awful. After almost fainting, she was hospitalized and had to undergo a blood transfusion and stay overnight. Thankfully, all went as best as it could go and her little bundle of joy was brought to her at the hospital. She’s back home now and taking in all the precious moments with her hubby and baby boy. “I can’t believe he’s really ours,” she told the outlet. “It is so amazing. He’s a miracle.”
