Grab your tissues — Michael Angelakos’ latest interview will definitely move you. The lead singer of indie band, Passion Pit, just came out to Bret Easton Ellis during a podcast interview. Read his brave confession here.
Michael Angelakos, 28, called off his marriage to Kristina Mucci in August — and in a new interview he admitted that he tried desperately to be make it work and actually tried to ignore his real feelings because he cared about her so much.
“I’ve told very few people in my personal small circles because I don’t know how to talk about it, you know?” Michael told Bret Easton Ellis’ on his podcast, B.E.E. “When this was all happening recently, finally, I just decided it might be best to talk about it here. I don’t really know what happened, but it’s just one of those gut feelings. It’s the same gut feeling I had when I said, ‘Okay, I kind of just need to talk to people about the fact that I am. I’m gay.’ And that’s it. It just has to happen.”
He also said that he “wanted so badly to be straight, because I love her so much,” which of course, is heartbreaking. “I think that was one of the most painful things when we decided to separate.”
However, when he did let his wife know, she was the one who helped him through it the most. “When I decided to really deal with it head on, which was, I don’t know, in June, she was the one who spearheaded it in a way. “She said, ‘You need to figure out what’s going on with your sexuality because you can’t hate yourself anymore.'”
We have to say — that’s so amazing that he was brave enough to come out, and it’s so sweet to see that she stood by him while he figured out who he was!
