While Sam Smith is currently riding high off the release of his new James Bond theme song, “Writing’s on the Wall,” the singer-songwriter revealed to Ellen Degeneres on Nov. 6 that he intends to spend the next year far away from the music studio. The reason? ‘I need to kiss some more boys!’
Sam Smith may have just exploded back onto the scene with the release of his new James Bond song, “Writing’s On The Wall,” but the 23-year-old singer-songwriter has revealed to Ellen Degeneres that he’s looking forward to taking some serious time off in the coming year. So, what does he plan to do with his time off? We’ll give you a hint: it has less to do with writing music, a whole lot more to do with making out with cute guys!
The Grammy-award-winning artist stopped by The Ellen Degeneres Show on Nov. 6 to discuss the release of his latest chart-topper, “Writing on the Wall.” However, despite the song’s instant success (it became the first James Bond theme song to reach number one in the UK), Sam admitted that he is looking forward to taking a full year off from the music industry — mostly for the sake of his romantic life. “It’s actually a really recent decision. This could change,” he revealed to Ellen. “I change my mind all the time, but I kind of decided a few months ago that I need to have a little bit of a break.”
Hey, if One Direction can do it, why can’t he, right? Still, Sam admits that while he may be taking time away from the recording studio, it’s all really for the benefit of his music down the road. “My music is so personal and I need to live my life,” he said. “I basically need to kiss some more boys so I can write some songs.” Ellen was quick to agree, saying, “I was gonna say we need to hear more stories.” “I need to go and make the stories so I can write about them,” he answered.
As you might recall, Sam was previously linked to dancer and model Jonathan Zeizel, who appeared in his “Like I Can” video. The two reportedly split in January, just weeks after posting a handful of cozy-looking vacation snaps together on Instagram.
In addition to revealing his plans for future romantic rendezvous, the young Brit also revealed that he recently moved into a new London bachelor pad, complete with an adorable new cat named, Henry. To help get Sam situated in his new place, Ellen kindly gifted Sam with an all-in-one La-Z-Boy chair equipped with a mini piano and a music stand so he can continue to create Grammy-award-winning tunes from the comfort of his own home. Of course, being Ellen, she couldn’t resist taking the gift one step further by presenting him with a matching La-Z-Boy for Henry adorned with mice figurines and a food bowl. Now all he needs is a cute fella and he’ll prime for hiatus time!
