Talk about a dramatic beauty moment! Sarah Hyland attended the AmfAR gala with a practically black lipstick that she paired with fanned out lashes and pastel eyeshadow that matched her dress. Find out how you can balance a dark lip with softer colors, below.
Allow Sarah Hyland‘s latest beauty and fashion combo to serve as your personal style inspiration for the remainder of the cold weather season. The 24-year-old actress attended the AmfAR gala in Los Angeles on October 29 with a super dark lipstick and pretty pale dress that somehow paired perfectly together.

In most cases the basically black lip might seem too harsh, but here’s why we think Sarah made it work. Instead of pairing the dark lipstick with an equally dark smokey eye and neutral colored clothes, Sarah’s eye makeup was soft pinks and purples, and her Jenny Packham gown was a pale pink shade with frosty beaded detailing. While an evening gown might not be your average outfit of choice, you can still get the same effect by pairing your dark lipstick looks with sweaters in cream and pastel shades.
For her exact makeup, Allan Avendano created a luminous base with Lancome Teint Miracle Foundation and Dior Star Concealer. After applying MAC Blush in Well Dressed to the cheeks, Allan gave the high points of Sarah’s face a radiant glow with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder in Luminous Light.

For the eyes, Allan used a mix of sold out pink and lavender hues from Tom Ford, but you could just as easily simplify the look by using an iridescent white shadow just at the inner corner of the eyes to make them appear larger (especially helpful as dark lipstick can give eyes a smaller appearance). Finish by curling your lashes and applying a few coats of lengthening and volumizing mascara like Dior Iconic Overcurl Mascara in Black.
For Sarah’s gothic matte lip, Allan started by lining and lightly filling her lips with MAC Lip Pencil in Currant. For the perfect dramatic hue, Allan used Tom Ford Lip Color in Black Dahlia, which is a matte finish lipstick that smoothes over lips like a dream and lasts all day.
Will you be copying Sarah’s latest beauty look, HollywoodLifers, or is it too severe for you?
