So sad. ‘Happy Days’ star Al Molinaro passed away on Thursday, Oct. 30, his son confirms. The 96-year-old actor, who played the chef and owner of Arnold’s diner, Al Delvecchio, died in California. Find out all the details here.
Al, who played the beloved chef at the drive-in on the iconic series, died in a California hospital, TMZ claims. The actor had very bad gall stones, according to his son, but due to his age, Al elected not to have surgery.
On Happy Days, Al played Big Al Delvecchio, who started out as the chef at Arnold’s Drive-In, but later became the owner. He stayed on the show for 10 years between 1974 and 1984, and also protrayed his role on the 1982 spinoff, Joanie Loves Chachi. His character was famous for telling stories that started with “Yep, yep, yep, yep, yep.”
Al, who also starred in The Odd Couple, The Family Man, Step by Step, The Love Boat, Punky Brewster, and Freaky Friday, is survived by his wife, Betty, and his son, Michael. Our thoughts go out to Al’s friends and family during this difficult time. He was a talented man and he’ll surely be missed.
