Selena Gomez, 23, is coming back to television. The actress/singer is in final talks to produce the new Netflix miniseries titled 13 Reasons Why, Jay Asher’s book about a high school girl who commits suicide and reveals the 13 reasons why she took her own life.
Selena is set to produce the miniseries, our sister site Variety reports. The book was once going to be a feature film, but it has found its way to TV. Selena has been attached to this project since 2011.
The 13-episode miniseries will tell the story of Hannah Baker, who commits suicide. Clay receives a shoe box of cassette tapes from his crush, Hannah, after she’s taken her life. The tapes, which are sent to 12 students, reveal to each of them how they played a role in her tragic death. She gives them thirteen reasons why she committed suicide.
We’re excited and proud of Selena’s new job. She’s going to do an amazing job being an executive producer.
Selena has been challenging herself in all aspects of her career. She just released her new album, Revival, on Oct. 9. She’s also been filming many movies over the course of the last year, including The Big Short, The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving, In Dubious Battle and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising.
13 Reasons Why marks Selena’s big return to TV. She became a household name from starring on the Disney Channel original series Wizards of Waverly Place from 2007 to 2012.
