Raven-Symone, 29, may have drawn the final straw with The View fans when she victim-shamed the Spring Valley High School student that was assaulted by an officer for using her phone. They’ve started a petition to remove her from the panel, and thousands of signatures may have her job in real trouble. Here’s what’s happening.
When shocking video surfaced of Spring Valley High School Resource Officer Ben Fields, 34, slamming a female student to the ground for using her phone in class, people were understandably appalled. There is simply no excuse for a grown man to harm a young girl, especially someone who has committed no violent offense, if any offense at all. Raven acknowledged this briefly, before making an excuse for him, saying of the victim: “Get off your phone! You are in school — get off your phone. What are you doing on Instagram?” Oh god, Raven, no.
Now, nearly 50,000 signatures have been collected on a Change.org petition addressed to Barbara Walters, 86, to remove her from her post at The View, and that number is rapidly increasing. So far ABC has stood behind Raven, but with so much support, this one might be hard to ignore.
Raven has been no stranger to controversy. Though she’s only been on the show regularly since May 2015, there have been several comments that had fans up in arms. She caused outrage when she criticized Caitlyn Jenner‘s transition, and again when she said she wouldn’t hire an African-American person with a “ghetto” name. Petitioners say she just isn’t a good role model, and it’s getting harder and harder to disagree.
Sound off, HollywoodLifers! Do you think Raven deserves to lose her job?
