So moving! Bindi Irwin is opening up about her late father, Steve, like never before. In a preview for a super emotional ‘Today Show’ interview, the ‘DWTS’ contestant says, above all, she hopes her papa would ‘be proud’ of her!
Bindi Irwin has been crushing it on this season of Dancing With the Stars, but the 17-year-old is still incredibly vulnerable, particularly when talking about her father, Steve Irwin, who died nine years ago. In an upcoming interview on the Today Show, Bindi gets real about the grief she’s felt since losing her dad, and how she has finally let that grief in, allowing it to make her stronger during her Dancing debut. Watch a preview from the intense discussion!
“I knew that it was coming,” Bindi says, describing the emotional revelations she has felt over her late father’s death. “It was kind of just reaching a place that I haven’t– that I haven’t even thought about. You kind of just push things aside, push things away,” she adds.
However, the Dancing queen admits that being on the competition show has helped her to embrace emotions– even those that are difficult. “It’s okay to feel that emotion,” she says. “It’s about picking yourself up afterwards and remembering that you can be happy afterwards,” she adds with a huge and beautiful smile.
Finally, speaking directly of her dad, Bindi says simply, “I hope he’d be proud, I really do.”
The interview becomes a family affair when Bindi’s mom, Terri Irwin, 51, chimes in and explains, “You can have joy and light in your life again.” And Bindi’s little brother, Robert Irwin, 11, gets the last–and sob-inducing- word. Describing watching his sis kill on DWTS, he says, “It’s just beautiful, it’s incredible.” Hearing those words, Bindi can’t help but get emotional and give her brother the biggest hug.
So touching! Are you rooting for Bindi on DWTS?
