Katy Perry’s Ex Russell Brand Slams ‘Vapid’ Singer As Everything He ‘Detests’

Whoa, way harsh Russell Brand! The comedian totally ripped apart his ex-wife Katy Perry in his new documentary, calling the pop princess ‘vapid, vacuous and plastic.’ Where is the love?!

Katy Perry, 30, has got to be fuming mad at her ex-husband Russell Brand, 40, right about now. The British comedian had some pretty nasty things to say about his one time love in his new documentary, Brand: A Second Coming, in which he openly mocks her during a standup routine while painting her as nothing more than a “plastic” pop star. Ouch!

In the revealing documentary, which was filmed during the couple’s 14 month marriage, Russell says his visit to Africa for Comic Relief in the spring of 2010 had a profound effect on him, an ultimately led him to question his relationship with the “Firework” hit-maker when he realized there values were not the same. “The stuff in Africa hit me really hard,” the comedian says. “I’m associated with the very thing I detest: vapid, vacuous, plastic, constructed, mindless celebrity. That’s the very sea we’re swimming in: ‘Oh, who’s he? He’s married to Katy Perry’.”

Sadly, Russell’s bashing didn’t stop there. Along with the vicious name-calling, the comedian is also seen mocking his then wife in a stand-up routine and admitting to his close friend, fellow comedian Stephen Merchant, that he didn’t think their marriage would last. “It’s definitely good I’m with someone I love,” he tells him. “But it’s not a resolution to anything spiritual. “This is my suspicion, that at some point, to be happy, I’m going to have to walk away.”

Naturally, Katy is said to be feeling very upset and “embarrassed” by the documentary, which Russell didn’t actually approve of himself. “It hurts like hell for Katy to re-live her painful marriage like this,” a source close to the star told Grazia magazine. “She feels vulnerable and embarrassed.” We don’t blame her! We can’t even begin to imagine how painful it must be to hear your former husband say such painful things about you. Katy reportedly went through a very difficult time after her split from the 40-year-old Brit in 2011, so we’re certain this has done nothing but bring up some pretty nasty wounds.
