Lamar Odom nearly died from a drug overdose at a Nevada brothel and now Dr. Drew Pinksy tells HollywoodLife.com that there’s a good chance Lamar may go back to doing drugs unless he goes to rehab the moment he’s released from the hospital.
Lamar Odom is not out of the woods by any stretch of the imagination. The former NBA star is still in the hospital recovering from his near death experience and is said to be on dialysis. But even though he almost lost his life to drugs, Dr. Drew Pinsky, host of the Dr. Drew Show on HLN, tells HollywoodLife.com that it’s unlikely Lamar is receiving any sort of emotional treatment like counseling while in the hospital and that even though Lamar almost died, he may still choose a life filled with drugs and alcohol.
“I believe Lamar should be in a residential, away away treatment,” Dr. Drew tells us. “That would be hard. Whether he will do it. I mean plenty of drug addicts have near death experiences and go back to doing it their way. Time will tell. It is all medical care right now. There is very little going on psychiatrically right now. Many addicts are so out of it during their addiction, they cannot remember how bad it was.” Yikes, so does this mean that Lamar could have a relapse? Dr. Drew says there is definitely a chance.
“He is always going to think about using. He is a drug addict,” Dr. Drew adds. “That is what drug addicts do. Even whenever they are not thinking of using, whatever thoughts they are having are pushing them back towards their drug. That is the way the disease works. Even when they don’t crave, don’t think about it, the response they are having is pushing them back towards their drug even if they seem unrelated.”
HollywoodLifers, do you think Lamar will have a relapse?
