A South Carolina school resource officer is being investigated by the FBI after he was caught on tape violently flipping and dragging a female student out of her classroom chair. He has a prior history of ‘recklessly targeting African-American students.’ The video is extremely intense, click to watch.

Officer Ben Fields, 34, has been relieved of his duties at Spring Valley High School in Columbia, South Carolina, after he was caught on video body-slamming a female student on Oct. 26. The incident was caught on tape by fellow students in the victim’s classroom, who watched the entire ordeal go down — including a teacher.

In the outrageous video, the officer was attempting to arrest the girl at her Spring Valley High School after she reportedly caused a disturbance by using her cellphone. In the video you hear Ben clearly state, “Either you’re coming with me or I’ll make you.” Then when the teen refuses to leave her seat, you see the male officer violently grab girl, flip her onto the floor (desk and all), and then he drags her across the ground to the front of the classroom. It is truly stomach-turning.

“The student was told she was under arrest for disturbing school and given instructions which she again refused,” Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott told WISTV. “The video then shows the student resisting and being arrested.” The school’s superintendent Dr. Libby Roof wrote, “Our District is deeply concerned about an incident that occurred at Spring Valley High School today,” in a statement to local news station WLTX. “It’s very disturbing what happened today. It’s something I have to deal with and that’s what we’re going to be doing.”

“Student safety is and always will be the District’s top priority,” Richland School District Two. Superintendent Dr. Debbie Hamm stated. She went on to say, “The District will not tolerate any actions that jeopardize the safety of our students… Pending the outcome of the investigation, the District has directed that the school resource officer not return to any school in the District.”

Sadly, this isn’t the first incident that this officer was involved in. Ben was named as a defendant in a 2013 federal lawsuit that claims he “unfairly and recklessly targets African-American students with allegations of gang membership and criminal gang activity,” according to the outlet.

In a statement, the Richland Black Parents Association said they were “heartbroken as this is just another example of the intolerance that continues to be of issue in Richland School District Two particularly with families and children of color.” As for the unidentified female student, she was arrested for disturbing school and resisting arrest, and was returned to her parents’ custody, officials said.
